Why?

I always wondered why some women stay in abusive relationships. You see it occasionally, the man is either physically or verbally abusive to her, yet she stays. Probably because she remembers the good times and longs for them again. Perhaps she is afraid of the unknown or of being alone?

Now I know why. I'm stuck in an abusive relationship. Yet I can't leave the Thrashers. They have put me through YEARS of abuse, yet I come back for more. Sad isn't it. Last nights game sucked. The game before that sucked. The game before that sucked. And the game before that sucked. See a pattern here?

Your Chronicle contributors did however get to go to the Season Ticket Holder Skating Party at Philips Arena yesterday. What a feeling getting to skate on AHL... uh, NHL ice. It was massive amounts of fun and we certainly appreciate the chance (as well as the free food).

Today, as I'm sure you know, is Super Bowl Sunday. Take a look back at what I said one year ago today. A simple explanation of how Hockey is so much better than Football. After you have read that enjoy the latest installment of Coach's Corner:

For The Blueland Chronicle, I'm Big Shooter.

As we were skating on the ice in Philips Arena, I took a moment to pause in the attack twice crease. I backed into the blue paint and hunched down like a goalie watching the action in his team's offensive zone across the rink.

It occurred to me to imagine the mindset of a visiting goalie. How must it feel to suit up for an NHL game and stand here, in the third period, with a shutout going? Then, as you watch your team pummel Moose or Kari with shots at the other end of the ice, and you wonder if you are going to have to make another save tonight to preserve your shutout, you hear a sound over your left shoulder. Your spirits are high and you believe in the future until this fateful moment with 10:54 to go in the third period with the score 4-0 in your favor, and the Nasty Nest reveals to you that in reality, you suck.

I hope you are all proud of yourselves for the irreparable emotional harm that you have caused to so many goalies over recent years. A man's ego cannot be saved by a shutout when he has been taunted in unison by a dozen morons.

Every time I see Don Cherry, I think of two things:
1. The famous Carol Burnett spoof of "Gone With The Wind" where she descends down the stairs wearing drapes and says, "I saw it in the window and just had to try it on."
2. Dead men don't wear plaid.
