Everyone Who Pretended to (Fill in the Blank) is Gone

The roster for tonight's pre-season game in Carolina seems to point towards a last minute try-out for certain folks. The line I'm most intrigued with is Boulton-Slater-Gratton. HMMMMM...

Let's hope our B squad wins against their semi-A squad. I think we can do it. Ben Wright and the Falconer will be live-blogging. Sadly, I'll neither be watching (I ain't in no dagnab North Carolina silly!) or listening (going to see the Walkmen tonight woooooo).

I know it's gonna be a good year.

Has anyone heard how long Hainsey or Army are expected to be on the IR? We're going to get a taste of how important depth really is right off the bat here.

Kane can play for six or nine games before being sent back to juniors, I believe. IF that is ultimately going to be his destiny for this season. It might be good to put him in Army's spot for that time to get a good taste before sending him back down.

I foresee Gratton being given a shot on the fourth line in place of Thorburn. When Coach Anderson spoke of two forward positions being up for grabs (Wednesday before the game on the Blueland Blog) I think he was talking about Thorb's former job and whether or not Maxim is making the team.

On D, with Hainsey gone, we have the two spots JA said were open, plus the job of temporary stopgap. Half of our defense corps in game one may be more or less shaky youngsters. I expect Pops to make the team. Salmela's play last season impressed me, but he hasn't seen much ice time this preseason. Oystrik and Valabik have looked like decent AHL defensemen. I don't think Postma is there yet either.

Until Hainsey is back, I'd put Pop with the Kub Scout and roll out Oystrik and either Salmela or Postma on a limited basis. Once Hainsey is back, put Pop on the third pairing with whoever played better of the other two and you can expand their ice time a bit.
