Silver Blues

God, I am going to miss the Olympics. It is hard to get excited about NHL play resuming after that kind of drama. I guess maybe we can look forward to the possibility that Crosby gets run over by the zamboni. And is it just me, or did it look like Brooks Orpik REALLY hates Danny Heatley?

It might have helped if I'd remembered about the Wake Up Atlanta promo the Thrashers were doing this morning handing out free coffee at AM/PM stores. Sorry, Shooter, that's only in the civilized counties.

It could never happen, but I would be all in favor of letting go of all of the Olympic caliber players currently in the NHL and letting the IIHF host a full 55 game season. Take the 12 teams that just played in Vancouver, then add Kazakhstan, Poland, Denmark, France, Italy, Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand (might have to combine those two), Japan, and China. Run it just like the NHL season with 55 games stretched over about the same period of time to account for increased travel times. Then have a full NHL style playoff tournament.

I just can't wait 4 years between these tournaments. The World Championships don't do that much for me because the teams are such a hodge podge of guys whose teams didn't make the NHL playoffs. It doesn't help that we almost never get to see any of those games in the US. The WJC is great every year. As bad as the last World Cup was, I think we need to bring it back and put it on during the offseason two years offset from the Olympics.

Ah well. Enough of this. Let's go check the ole Twitter machine and see if there's any rumblings about trades yet.

One of the Leafs bloggers over at Eklund's Hockey Funhouse says the Leafs have wanted Little in the past, and we may move him to get Ponikarovsky.

Just don't see that happening. Not with the way Little's playing with Berfors & Antropov right now.

No way that we move Little. Nice try Leaf-baggers!! I'd love to get Poni but it will be for a 2nd rounder and a prospect or our 1st rounder from NJ. That price might be a bit steep, and we are a bit thin on prospect wingers.

Antro + Poni + Little = goals

Then Bergie can play with Pevs and Kane after we dump Colby for a pick or prospect.

Razor - are you ready to bring back the "Crabb Dance"??

They need to put these tournaments back on international sized rinks rather than the NHL sized rinks. If I want to watch NHL hockey, then I'll watch NHL hockey.

Speaker- I'll be ready with snapping claws if Joseph S. Crabb makes it back into the lineup.

Anonymous- Disagree totally. The smaller rink made for much, much better hockey. Hockey means having to fight your way through a gauntlet to get to the net, not dancing around the ice. We have women's hockey for that.

According to Bucci, the 17.6 Nielson rating (I have no idea what that means but it's good) means the Gold Medal game had higher ratings than "every World Series game since 2004... AND every NBA Finals telecast since 1998 and every NCAA Men's Basketball Final Four game since at least '98." I've been hearing people talk about hockey who a week ago wouldn't have known the shape of a hockey stick. Now we need a good playoffs to really get people hooked.

This is the first Olympics on the NHL sized rink and because of that, I say that America's Hat has won a tainted gold medal. I can't wait for the next Olympics when Olympic hockey returns to it's true rink size.
