Mike Cammalleri is still my first choice, and Nik Antropov might be the most sensible (if you can talk him down from his over-the-top demands about the Money), but...injury troubles aside, this shit can't be denied:

Apparently Rutherford is not optimistic about resigning Erik Cole. Now that'd be awesome if could somehow get him.
Rather have Gaborik.
It's the injuries that worry me
Sigh. Look at the man's record. He's only missed a HUGE amount of a season once: last year. Look at his goal-to-game ratio for every season he's ever played.
Erik Cole's non-Hurricanes record gives me more pause than Gaborik's injuries.
It's just that Cole is a power forward. But yes, Gaborik would be cool. We know he is a good player.
Cole is very good, I just...he's not the awesome forward that Cammalleri or Gaborik is. And his power forward qualities never really took hold in Edmonton...which makes me worry that he needs Stormy the Pig to flourish.
But that piggy don't want him
I'd take Cole over Gabby ANY day of the week. Big Shooter has spoken.
If we are planning on signing Kovy, we aren't going to spend a huge amount on someone like Gaborik. That majority of the money should go to Kovy obviously.

I don't think it's impossible to have both Kovalchuk and Gaborik. It probably won't happen, but it could. Remember when we had Kovalchuk and that Hossa fellow, simultaneously?
Plus Gaborik will be playing, wherever he signs, for less than he'd be worth on a normal market, what with his Injury-Plagued Career and the current Great Depression.

I wouldn't be totally pissed if we got Cole, but I'd like the above guys better.
Well yeh I'd like alot of those guys. I'd like Thorton, Iginla, Brown, and Malkin, but we can't always get what we want
