There's a game tonight. I forget who is playing in it.
In other hockey news, TSN reports that Dany Heatley asked Ottawa management for a trade last week. No word about whether or not there is a related vehicular homicide. The story hints that he would like to play out West. Not surprising, since he's been trying to weasel his way back closer to home ever since Dan Snyder died.
Also loading up a covered wagon and heading for the Oregon Trail is Brent Suter who most recently did a fine job of coaching the mostly Brodeur-less New Jersey Devils to a respectable record this past season. As would be expected, rumors are flying that he will wind up behind the bench of the Flames with his big brother signing his checks. While I feel people should honor their contractual obligations (Suter has a year left with the Devils), I can certainly understand the desire to live in Alberta rather than Newark.
Rounding out the news is actually a bit of non-news. That is that the judge in Phoenix will not be issuing a ruling today in the Coyotes' bankruptcy case. So all those underserved folks in Southern Ontario are going to have to keep on salivating a while longer.

Holy Crap!! Is Dany boy a piece of shit or what!?!
Second team, second demand for a trade. First time after an organization and entire city stands behind you when you make just about the worst decision of all time.
And then the second time one year after signing a SIX year deal to play the hockey for millions upon millions of dollars.
Not that I had any respect for him before, but that just about does it now.
I can totally see Edmonton try to acquire Heatley. He is a star player, and Edmonton is in need of a star. A deal to a San Jose team looking for a different mix might make sense, too. Marleau? Cheechoo? Would the Kings use some of their organizational depth to acquire Mr. Heatley? A lot of star players are on the block, should make for a very interesting, fun-filled summer.
Indeed Jay. I am terrified my Oilers will make that trade, because it does make sense for them. My goodness I would hate that...
I've only been a Thrashers fan for two years now. Before then, I only really followed hockey once the playoffs started. Occasionally I would check the standings and see how the Oilers were doing(what could be considered my favorite team as a kid). I really don't know or understand the full backstory as to why people in Atlanta dislike Heatley so much. I realize that he asked for a trade out of Atlanta after the accident that killed Snyder. I've tried to put myself in his position, and it must have been horribly tough to have to come to work everyday and be reminded that you were the reason someone was dead. I can't fault a guy for that. I actually consider that trade a very shining moment for Don Waddell. To come away with Marian Hossa when everyone knows you need to trade a guy, was rather impressive in my opinion. Why Heatley wants to be traded out of Ottawa now is beyond me, though. He is a very good player. Edmonton would do good in acquiring him. What they have now hasn't been working.
True Jay. Someday we need to meet up for an adult beverage and I'll explain to you why Heatley acted in such an un-hockey way. It doesn't have so much to do with what he did, but how he did it.
Enough for now, it's all in the past....
Jay, if you do subject yourself to that adult beverage, know that you are right about the Snyder accident, and about the trade. Neither of these guys speak for all of the real Thrashers fans. You are just reading the wrong blogs, and the fans that boo Heatley when he gets the puck just try to be louder than the rest of us. Please don't listen if he tries to tell you he has any idea about 'the hockey way,' and at the end of the meeting (or, even better, at the beginning), tell him to shut up. Thanks.
Hey, PB... we are all entitled to our opinion, including you... so welcome to our blog.
Just because my views on Heatley differ from yours, that doesn't make me not a real Thrashers fan. This is obviously a hot button issue with a lot of folks.
I won't go through the whole thing here with you because I don't like to fight with, or try to be louder than, the rest of my fellow Thrashers fans. You seem like you have been around enough that you know both sides of the Heatley argument. And by the way, telling someone to shut up really isn't a good way to start a conversation. Whenever Heatley comes up and I voice my opinion, if after it's all said and done the other person doesn't agree with me, that's fine. We continue our adult beverage and enjoy talking hockey with other passionate fans.
I'm an agree to disagree kind of guy, so please don't be a stranger to the blog.
