The offseason can be a lonely place. Trust me, I know. Here at the Chronicle, we have a few ideas to help get us all through the offseason with at least a laugh or two.
I will be doing a Coach's Corner Classic segment. Ah, but not yet. Just a little teaser. Why don't we start with a great moment from the career of one, Patrick Stefan. Let me first say that I supported Patty, and it is too bad his career turned out the way it did. But you can't help but laugh until you are blue at this clip. My favorite part is the commentary by Ray Ferraro. Classic... enjoy!!!!

Ah yes, poor Patty. Shoulda just knocked it in with your purse.
Though in Stefanie's defense, it does look like the puck hit something on the ice and jumped up over his blade just as he was going to backhand it into the net.
Thats one reason why you see goalies chopping up that ice before each period. showboating = idiot.
Ok, how did I end up in the position where I am actually defending Patty Stefan? Oh well, I'll do it again.
He actually wasn't showboating there. It's good hockey to wait as long as possible before putting the biscuit in the basket on an empty netter as long as there's nobody on you, where there wasn't in this situation. Nobody (John LeClair, Esa Tikkanen), wants to be known for missing an open net. So you stick handle it into the net for the sure point whenever you can. In this instance, the puck hit a bad patch of ice (which as jointhead rightfully points out was probably by design) and it got away from Stefan.
Now a prime example of showboating is Leon Lett in the Superbowl who decided to celebrate before getting into the endzone for his first career touchdown, only to have the ball stripped away by a backchecking (I know they don't use that term in football, but it's what he did) player from the other team. Seems I remember a story about another guy from the defensive side of the huddle doing that once, but I'm blanking on the name. Some part-indian guy I think.
Yeah, as funny as I find that clip I do have to admit that it probably wasn't Stefan's fault. Bad ice and such.
How many guy do you see shoot an empty netter from inside the goal crease no matter how many people are around them, it was cocky, and lazy, and it cost them. Not that I hate patty or anything, just seems like a lesson learned.
I'm sorry... yes it was his fault. I see your point, but there still is no excuse.
Lazy play by Patty. Sums up his entire career.
