Kids and Their Blogs These Days

So I'm checking the old Chronicle inter-mail box and I see someone from something called theNHLarena.com has set up some kind of Thrashers "blog-off" poll to determine which Thrashers blog the kids are digging most these days. Judging from the comments, most people vote according to whatever looks "solid" based on a 2 minute glance up and down each blog's main page.

What can we learn from this poll? You can look for yourself and decide. Speaking for myself: it seems to me that competitions like this have very little to do with spending time with a blog, hearing its unique and enlivening voice, learning its quirks and idiosyncrasies. It's not about the voice or the sensibility that goes into making a blog a continuous and hopefully interesting piece of writing; it's about...I don't know, exactly. Whichever blog is the best repository of "information," I think.

I think we here at TBC LLC might have a different conception of "blogs" than most people. Sigh. We will never be a majority taste.

So I guess what we can gather from this "poll" is that in order to have a "good" blog all you have to do is go to the Thrashers web site and copy/paste the lineup into your blog and the phrase "lineups are subject to change".

Simply riviting.

I am absolutely astounded that my blog even made it on that poll! While I am flattered at the gesture and heartened by the kind words of a gent calling himself "Kovalchuk", I'm a bit perplexed as to why there isn't more love for the Chronic-lers. Y'all are the bomb-diggity and those fools are just hatin'! Hell, I wouldn't even be blogging if it wasn't for y'all's support. At second blush, I see our old friend "Mishey22" actually nominated you guys and then withdrew the nomination after our little blog tiff in the wake of the Dolts collapsing like a cheap lawn chair that fateful Sunday afternoon. Alas, there are more fools than scholars over there!

Keep on truckin' boys and don't believe the hype! They need to check it before they wreck it cuz TBC's gonna make it real funky for you...get funky!!

I too started my blog because of the Chronicle...and you're still my FIRST stop on my morning blog routine...I don't see all of us bloggers as being in competition with each other either...I think we're like a chorus...singing different notes to the same tune..

We all do it different and we all have something to contribute..and for the most part I think we're all fans of each other anyway...so who gives a shit whose #1 in a poll we all know who the real winners are...our reader

Well said Daculafan. As I've said before, I'm astounded that anyone actually reads our ramblings. I thought we were just doing this to amuse ourselves.

When Matt McConnell asked about our "philosophy on blogging" at the event last month, I told him exactly what we do: entertain first, and secondly try to get information out so that people don't have to search all over to find it.

We're not a news source, but we are obsessed with hockey and between the four of us are constantly scouring the internet/radio/tv for news. We'll rehash information and post links now and then to make sure y'all know what's going on out there, but really we're just trying to make ourselves laugh, and hopefully some of y'all will end up as collateral damage of our improvised hillarity devices.

Yes, very well said Dacula...here, here! I too stop here first before any other site just because I know I can count on a different and very entertaining POV.

Morty's wise-cracking and tongue-in-cheek humor might even be worth paying for if this were a subscription-based site. Don't know about that Shooter guy though...he's a bit childish and sophomoric! ;-)

I shouldn't sell RCP short though as he cracked me up with the sentence "some of y'all will end up as collateral damage of our improvised hilarity devices"!

As for Frenchy, he's my fave DJ in all the land, but these serreptitious visits to places like Swingin' Dicks and Bulldogs is going to catch up to me like a TMZ paparazzo catches a Tiger by the "tail"...sorry, couldn't resist that shot at Eldrick.

I think all the blogs are great too. I got tired of going through each one individually every day, so I made them update on my side bar so I can see whenever any Thrashers blog posts something new.

Seriously? There is absolutely nothing copy and pasted in my game day line-ups. Your comment it unjustified and downright BS. It takes me tons of time to put those together and from a multitude of informational sites to stack all the info together as well as talking with people around the teams to get line-ups. The subject line "All Lines Subject To Change" refers to game time changes.

A poll on a message board means absolutely nothing and does not mean one blog is good or better than another.

All us bloggers have different styles of writing and each serves a purpose in this blogging community. Mine just happens to go along the lines of the informational side.

If we all wrote the same way then what would be the purpose of having several blogs?

Lisa-

I think that was the same point I was making. The one about blogs having different styles and such, which seems more important than there being a single "best" one.

Seriously?-

Alright now, back to your cage. You're disturbing the neighbors, you crazy beast.

I totally agree Lisa..I like your blog for it's straight forward content..it does provide factual information and I didn't agree with Seriously.

Like I said before I think that the sum is greater than the parts and we all have a unique contribution to make...so everybody that does it...let's keep on doing it...

I love the fact we have so many bloggers and so many styles for the team now. Back when I first started blogging there wasn't anywhere near what we have now. To me it shows how much passion we as fans have for the team. Personally I like reading all the different variations and points.

Whoever this Seriously is just got me a little miffed with his copy/paste comment.

On another note, next blogger event you guys need to get your booty's there. LOL

Speaker - I'm glad to see I've made such an impression on you!

Lisa - We don't want to sit in the press box all "official" when we could be screaming from our seats all the while drinking over priced beer. Now, non-game time events are another story...

Looks like some of your ghost-peeps have been sneaking into the blog with your passwords to delete comments off the blog! Hmmmmm, spoooooooooky!

Shooter man, you crack me up. One of these games, we'll actually get there in time to drink some reasonably-priced beer with you at Gorin's.

Back on point, how "popular" is that NHLArena.com site on a scale of 1 to 13, 13 being entirely overrated drivel...like my blog!

Big Shooter I completely understand. Sitting in the press box is one of the hardest things to do as a fan.
