This Just In...

Former President Jimmy Carter proves himself to be a total dick.

Jimmy Carter said John McCain "milked" his experience as a POW when he was interviewed by Rick Warren a couple of weeks ago. Carter explained that McCain tried to mention he was a POW in nearly every single answer.

For those of you who didn't see the interview, Rick Warren is a Pastor and most of the interview was centered around Faith. I feel pretty confident that the only way McCain made it through those horrible years was because of his Faith. That is why he talked about it so much President Dimmy.

And one more thing, in nearly every speech he has given since that interview, Obama has said how McCain thinks Middle Class is anywhere below $5 million. I really thought Obama was above that kind of nonsense, but he continues to prove me wrong. To anyone who actually saw the interview McCain was clearly joking, in fact he even said so about 2 seconds after making the remark. Our boy Obama never seems to mention that. Don't believe me that he was joking, watch:

EDIT:

Due to the comment by Anonymous (couldn't even post under a made up name could we?) complaining that this is a hockey blog and we should only talk about hockey... we shouldn't talk about what is going on in the world, I say to him or her, this is August. Not much going on in the hockey world there Sparky. If it makes you feel better I will type this: Go Thrashers.

For The Blueland Chronicle, I'm Big Shooter.

You're right that Carter is showing his cluelessness when he attacks McCain for talking about his POW experience in the context of the Rick Warren thing.

Is it really necessary, though, to mention his POW experience at every turn? Very, VERY few people on the left deny that McCain is a hero and a mensch, but seriously: Is having a horrendous POW experience enough to qualify you for the Presidency? Did McCain HAVE to respond to Jay Leno's question about his houses with yet another reference to his POW experience?

On another but related issue: Why the hell has Rick Warren suddenly become some kind of political arbiter in this country? What in God's name should a pastor (even a popular one) have to do with running forums and debates in a Presidential election? Warren is huge improvement over the Falwells and Robertsons of the world (and much better than the current Christianist guru Dr. James Dobson) but he's still a religious ideologue.

Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln couldn't get elected dogcatcher in today's America. Either that or they'd have to pretend they're "Men of Faith" at some stupid forum hosted by Rick Warren.

Well, I had subscribed to and read this blog because it was about hockey.

But if you are going to switch to politics, I guess that means I will have to unsubscribe and stop reading.

Fuck right off, then, Anonymous.

We don't want you.

Anonymous,

I have edited my post to suite your needs. If you would like to continue to stick your head in the ground and not care about what is going on in the world then that is your choice. Really.

Keep in mind this is our blog. We talk about hockey 99% of the time. If 1% of other talk is too much for you then so be it. Oh, Go Thrashers.

Morty-

Most of us talk about the events that have shaped our lives. If you (or anyone for that matter) were a POW you probably would keep refering to that. Overcoming that struggle shapes ones character and it has made McCain who he is today.

As Shooter says, we talk about the things that shape our lives because they shape who we are and they shape our views. More importantly, McCain's particular experience speaks directly to character, which the Democrats have been trying to say doesn't matter since 1992.

Yes, I agree that sometimes it comes up when it's not relevant, which would probably be the case if he said something about it in a response about his houses, but I didn't see it. But the same could be said about Obama repeatedly trotting out that line about not being of the usual Presidential pedigree or some other euphamism for "in case you've forgotten, I'm black."

For the record, I am 100% in favor of the United States electing a black president. As long as it's Condi Rice or JC Watts.

By the way, Morty, what is that picture? I've been wondering about that and haven't remembered to ask.

It's a picture of JFK (a President I don't really admire all that much, as it happens, though the moon thing was certainly nifty) shooting with two of my favorite American writers, Gore Vidal and Tennessee Williams. Williams is the one with the gun, Vidal in the one in sunglasses, and the one who looks like JFK is JFK.

I like it because it's just such a weird picture.

I could really piss people off by diving deep within my name and say something like Viva Chirac! Ahh just kidding. That's the thing. Fellow readers. Enjoy yourself. If you disagree that's wonderful. Let us know your thoughts we love it even if Mr. Peacock might go off a bit, but it's just a first reaction. It's all in good fun.

He really does need some form of anger management.

Wow guys, learn to lighten up a touch.

a) I have not chosen "to stick your head in the ground and not care about what is going on in the world." On the contrary, I know what the fuck is going.

b) I made that comment because politics dominate EVERYTHING for an entire year, every four years. The first day of ESPN's College Gameday was on today, and even that showed Obama and one of his speeches.

Write whatever the fuck you want, I really don't care.

Just having some fun Anonymous. Sorry you didn't get our little joke.

Our sense of humor is a little weird. You can't take what we say seriously.

Anonymous, seriously son. No one (presumably) is holding a gun to your head forcing you to read the Chronicle. Go elsewhere if our interest in things other than hockey bothers you that much.

And why shouldn't politics dominate the discussions of whatever? It's an important election, dude.
