The GM Who's Slow to Act...

Has a serious lack of tact?

The Tampa Bay Lightning have replaced Dan Boyle with Andrej Meszaros. I wonder if our General Manager is going to make any more moves this summer. Because we could, like, use some.

I have advice for Don Waddell (again): T-R-A-D-E S-O-M-E-B-O-D-Y.

We really didn't need Meszaros. If we had picked him up we would have been forced to trade a D-Man. Thing is, we don't have the right D-Man to trade. Let's pretend we'd signed Meszaros...

It'd be a mistake to trade
Hainsey
Bogosian
Enstrom
Havelid
Kulda
Meszaros (if)
Valabik

We'd have to shop one of...
Klee
Ex

If we were shopping Klee or Ex every team we talked to would be fully aware we had to move him. We'd be bargaining out of weakness and we wouldn't get anything.

Besides, Ottawah low balled him for a reason. He was a -19 two years ago and +5 last year. I bet he was part of the collapse/Emery problem.

I agree. I think the draft pick cost would have been too much to give up.

I reckon you're right, pk. I don't really mean that we need Meszaros per se, but that we should try to get at least one new body before training camp.

I just feel like we should be doing some wheeling and dealing if the evil Bolts are still at it. But maybe we're set at this point...who knows?

MP,

Please... call me Keith.

This team is going to gel early. If DW poaches a big name it'll be fourth week of September or earlier. After that we'll stand pat.

Sundin's $10M is the biggest variable.

Another thought, we can kill the Rozsival rumors.

I agree we don't need Mezaros, though another legit D or RW would be quite nice.

On the other hand, let's not try to keep up with the Bolts. Their new owners are excited about owning a team and think they should be making a move all the time. Sometimes the best move is no move until the right one comes along.

I like the aggressive move by Tampa, handing out offer sheets is so contrary to DW's nature I'd be shocked if the Thrashers ever did it.

I'm more favorable on Meszaros than some people, but if Kovalchuk gets injured for any length of time that 1st rounder will end up being extremely valuable.
