How to Silence a Cuckoo Clock

indeed

As expected, your US Americans defeated Switzerland this afternoon by a score of 3-1. Bobby Ryan, David Backes, and Ryan Malone are all American heroes. Particularly David Backes.

I was impressed by the two-way play of both Johnsons, and Ryan Miller was, of course, stellar. All four lines were good: Parise-Stastny-Kane was dazzling to watch, especially early in the game; Malone-Pavelski-Kessel and Langenbrunner-Kesler-Brown played with all kinds of fire; and the Ryan-Backes-Drury-Callahan free-for-all was the best line of the game. That group generated several scoring chances, and 2 goals. Hooray! There is a reason for that Chris Drury.

The team needs to time to gel, but they're already developing chemistry and gaining confidence, so hooray! Keep at it, boys, and you can go toe to toe with Sweden, Russia, and Canada. Keep phukkin' that chicken.

Other sexy games tonight: the Canada vs. the Norway, which should be fun (Nash-Crosby-Iginla, what is that like? Wait, what? Sidney is playing with Patrice Bergeron? Heengh?) AND Russia vs. Latvia, which will be a brutally lopsided epic massacre. Each of Russia's top six forwards, plus Andrei Markov and Sergei Gonchar, will have a hat trick. Evgeni Nabokov with 4 assists. Bank on it.

P.S. As I type, our USian ladies are destroying the Russian ladies 4-0 woooooo

Well done boys, well done. Hopefully the chemistry is starting to form. Two things:

1) Miller looked a bit shaky to me; seemed to struggle with reading the puck a few times.

Was it just me or did anyone else notice?

2) They are a bit fortunate that zee Swisse did not convert a few of their uber choice chances, especially that empty net in the late 2nd period. Could have been even tighter than it was.

Canadians looked really strong after a jittery, nervous first period in front of the home crowd.

This is going to be FUN!

Go Yankee Doodle Dandy!

Speaker - As always, it was just you. Miller played a great game.

Can you have a "great" game making all of 14 saves?? I don't think I'd go that far. However, I was generally impressed with the defense of the blueliners save for a couple of blown pinches.

I'm sure Miller will be better. Tought to look sharp when you face only 15 shots. Perhaps more troubling was the fact the US had only 3 SOG in the 3rd. Sitting on 2 and 3 goal leads against the likes of Canada, Sweden, Russia etc is not going to work.

Russians looked pretty good, but I think Canada will be a tough match-up for them since the Canucks will take away the lanes for all those fancy passes they like to make.

Oh, Speaker. I'm starting to really think you may be a lost cause after all! Yes, you can make 14 of 15 saves and have a "great" game. What else do you want him to do, never give up a goal?

He made the big save when he needed to and we won 3-1. As a team they should have played much better in the 3rd, but overall I think we all will take it!

Bring on the Gold!!!!!

Think I'll start calling you the Big Pollyanna. I must've missed the "big" save when I was composing my next "Ilya Kovalchuk is overrated" blog entry. ;-)

BTW, I never said he played poorly. He just didn't seem as razor sharp as I'm used to seeing him between the pipes for the Slugs. And it was obvious we had no answer for Hnat Domenichelli!

PS - speaking of blog entries, I finally have a new one up if anyone is bored enough to click on my link and check it out.

No one has an answer for the Mad Hnatter!!!

Speaker, I don't know where you got the notion that Ryan Miller has ever been sharp like Razor. Nobody is that sharp.

It was fun hearing Dommer's name once again. He played about the way I remember.

Yeah, what in the hell was I thinking? I need to stay away from such foolish notion potion.
