Just got back from Nashville, where last night we watched the Thrashers incinerate the Predators.
We wanted to go out after the game, but there was nothing left of Nashville after the Thrashers' relentless shelling.
Oh well.
Sat dangerously close to Don Waddell; Shooter ran into Joseph Crabb and Nathan Oystrick in the pretzel line; Razor ran into Dan Kamal in the men's room.
In all seriousness, four short points:
1. Wow.
2. Rich Peverley, I mean, Pev Dispenser=Jesus
3. Atlanta needs to find some way to put Philips Arena in the middle of a ton of bars, in a good walking area. Walking down the street in Nashville, it's all like Bar, Bar, Bar, Bar, Hockey Arena, Bar, Bar, Bar...
4. The Preds fans support their hockey team extremely well. The game was sold out, and the crowd was passionate but extremely polite to us opposing troops.

Philips surrounded by bars would be pretty sweet. Would definitely have made the last two years bearable. I had heard Nashville was a pretty good hockey town. Let's be honest, if they sell out for the Thrashers, they gotta be. I think Peverley could be Marc Savard 2.0. Sign him to an extension now!
just put philips in downtown athens, like 80 bars in two blocks. plus then id get to go to games :P
I think the area around Philips is slowly turning in that direction. Five years ago we had nothing but Jocks and Jills. Now the whole area is a lot safer, and we have Taco Mac, Stats, McCormick and Schmick's, Legal Seafood, the Maxim Steakhouse and rooftop lounge at the Hotel Glenn, the Wine Loft, and probably more that I don't even know about. It's going to keep improving over time if we patronize these places.
Razor's right. Things are changing. More things are being built. They're all pretty chic at times though. I hope just a solid bar opens.
You're right, Frenchy. I'd like a good dive bar we could adopt near the arena. But one where we wouldn't risk getting shot.
I'll have a beer, a flak jacket, and some homeless guy trying to sell me a cell phone with 1200 minutes. But, seriously there is alot of area close to the arena that could easily be spruced up a bit.
It is still much better than when we had the Omni...
