That's a good point, Recaps. I don't remember if that was in the terms of the deal or not but often times something like that is in there if the player re-signs with the club. Not sure if the fact that he signed after July 1st (as a UFA) would make any difference...
Major letdown though it does make me look smart by shouting down those who said that the Devils shouldn't bring Kovy back. No, he didn't fit in their system, but he was their best player in the playoffs and a change of "system" is exactly what the Devils need. They can't rely on Brodeur to win 16 playoff games anymore. They can't even count on him to win 4. The Lemaire re-experiment failed and Kovy is the perfect catalyst to turn around their culture.
Now if the Thrashers could just find a catalyst to do the same thing. Maybe Big Buff will continue his trajectory from the playoffs rather than returning to his regular season form.

Shoot first, defense second? Winning by skating small circles at the blue line? Yeah, he's really going to shake things up in NJ. Kovy has plenty of ability, but not the attitude to change a culture.
Surely after missing out on Zee Czar and Le Gagne, Dean Lombardi will look to make a major PR splash by trading for Todd White...and surely he'll give up, say, Jack Johnson or Wayne Simmons to do so.
In other "news," Thrashers are staying on 680 The Fan.

Will we get some sort of conditional pick out of this?
