The Madness Continues, Madly

(continuous updates below)

A hearty Thank You to Razor Catch Prey for his handling of live-blogging duties today. I would have been more engaged earlier, but I had to get some things done.

Ah yes, Dan Ellis is headed to Tampa. And Nittymaki to San Jose. And Colby Armstrong to Leafville. And Ilya Kovalchuk to...where?

And what about that Rick Dudley? What is his Grand Plan?

- Wait, what, Sergei Gonchar went to Ottawa? AHAHAHAHAHA

- How wild would it be if the Toronto Maple Leafs made some kind of Tomas Kaberle-for-Marc Savard deal, then signed Ilya Kovalchuk? A re-united Kovy-Savard pairing to play alongside Kris Versteeg and Phil Kessel, and uh, Colby Armstrong.

- Oh my. Paul Martin a Penguin, just like this young man.

- "Nabokov, Turco, Mason, Theodore, etc. all are going to have a real tough time finding a team," sez the James Mirtle writer. You all know what THIS means.

- Good Lord this is boring. Hamhuis to Vancouver (I think). I apologize for the sluggardly blogging today; I am awfully tired, for various work-related reasons. If something INTERESTING happens, I shall blog-slap it, here.

- Jay Grossman says his client, Anton Volchenkov, is finalizing his contract with the New Jersey Devils. What does this mean for that Kovalchuk fellow?

Joey Crabb to Toronto on a 2-way deal...good for him. He might actually get a shot to crack their 4th line. He's scrappy...and crabby in the corners!!

You mean we couldn't give Dan Ellis $2M per year? I mean REALLY? Is the payroll coming directly out of Dudley's wallet? I sure hope Nabokov or Mason comes cheap.

Boogaard is getting $1.65 M per year for 4 years!! WTF?

Some of these GM's are looney tunes certifiable!!

It's prolly good Duds is just sitting back watching it all unfold. Problem is: he works for the Atlanta Stupid Group.

Joe effin Johnson...max bank??

Good for Joey Crabb, and as the hours go by, I seriously wish Joe Johnson would go to the Knicks. Just go, Joe. GO. GET THE EFF OUT! That's a bad job if that contract screws over 2 franchises.

Really thought we were gonna get Dan Ellis. Shit.

Last July 1 (signing Antro/Kubina trade) got my hopes up that this organization would actually be able to get up off it's collective ass and sign somebody on the first day of free agency on a regular basis.

This July 1 is showing me that almost signing a goaltender and letting almost all of our UFAs walk is good enough for us.

Viva regression!

Problem with the JJ thing is no one can sign a deal until July 8th. Ugggghh!!

We actually signed Antro on 7/2. The Kuby trade was on 7/1 though.

At least tkts will remain cheap!

I'm really excited for the TSN series talking about new hockey franchises in Canadialand, especially where they show all the empty seats at Thrashers games. REPRESENT!

"Chris Mason is Atlanta's new No. 1 goalie, signing a two-year deal with yearly salaries of $1.6 and $2.1 million."-Kevin Allen

Well, there you go then.
