What Should We Make of October? What Should We Expect in November?

- Well, the weekend was kind to the Thrashers, was it not? Glad to see we made it through October with a 5-4-1 record; I don't think it's out of the question for the team to have a better record than that in November. If our penalty kill stays solid and Pavelec can be consistent, it can be done.

- So I started re-reading my favorite novel yesterday, and it struck me just how closely the old Atlanta Spirit civil war (which we've hopefully seen the last of) resembles the endless, tortuous Jarndyce and Jarndyce case. The Spirit battle could've done with a lot more fog and picturesque crime though.

- No word yet on Kovalchuk. It's amazing just how many huge stars are out with injuries at the moment. Even more amazing is the fact that most of the NHLers on the Russian national team have gone down: Markov, Gonchar, Kovalchuk, Malkin, and now Ovechkin. Curious stuff. Is this coincidence or something more organized?

No sir, I have nothing to talk about. Not until a winner is chosen in the screenplay poll, that is. So I'll turn the floor over to our beloved readers: just what are we supposed to take away from this past month? What are you expecting during the packed schedule of November?

I was just thinking about this this morning too. November looks like one of our better months in terms of competition and its mostly home games. Hopefully we'll take advantage of Carolina's and Detroit's poor play this season, but I'm afraid these teams will have a chance to rebound by the time we play them.

Honestly? I'm taking it one game at a time. Let's go up to Montreal and get the 2 points tomorrow. They've bounced back ever since they played us, and are playing a lot better. It'll be interesting to see which Thrashers team shows up in the Bell Centre--the team that went to Jersey and Buffalo and punked those guys, or the team that sat there with beers and watched Pavelec stand on his head.

Gimmie above .500 hockey and a healthier Czar and Hainsey. That'd be kinda cool. I'd like to see that in November.

Well put, GPY.

Sorry I've been absent of late, but I took a trip to Nashville for the GT/Vandy game and came home with pneumonia.

Just saw on TFP that the Blackhawks tried to offer Brian Campbell to the Sens for Heatley over the summer. "Yeah, he played pretty poorly last year, but just look at how much he gets paid! He MUST be good!"

Would have been interesting to see Hossa and Heatley on the same team though. Then again, that offer may have been before signing Hossa and one very well might have ruled out the other.

On a similar note, a thought occurred to me the other day about the 'Hawks impending cap issues. If the worst happened, and the Czar decided not to re-sign with Atlanta, how about a deadline deal Kovy for PKane and Duncan Keith?
