Big Georges Laraque Let Go

Poor Big Georges. This has not been a good week for him. First his native country is rocked by a 7.0 earthquake. Massive death ensues. Then a 6.1 aftershock hits.

Now he's been bought out by the Montreal Canadiens. Darren Dreger spoke with him and Big Georges called the move "classless."

My theory is that the Haiti earthquake brought to light for the first time that Big Georges is a francophone because his parents are Hatian, and not because he's a Canadian who wishes he was French.

Alas, Big Georges. Perhaps the Oilers will take you back. Or maybe Kovy needs an upgraded defender.

God bless him. So long, big fella, we'll miss you. Or sign you.

Now that I think about it, he hasn't really done much fighting in a long time (as h points out). Perhaps it was past time for him to retire. Great feller with a great career though.

There's a shitload of very ugly comments about BGL over at Puck Daddy:

"Well there you go Laraque. If are really so concerned with the events in Haiti, you no longer have a job so you are free to go there and help."

"Oh brother... a black athlete not standing up to his own shortcomings and blaming others.... Come on George, you are better than this right?
Attention ALL black athletes, you are not owed a job due to your color nor are you owed an explanation although it's nice to get one. In this case you got one and if the 'timing is bad' then consider the fact that you are STILL getting paid you moron. Go to Haiti and do 'enforce' there. Although your constant hugging isn't recommended with people yielding machetes..."

YIELDING machetes, you have to love that. And finally:

"he should have played basketball"

HI-OH! Because he's blaque!

Wow, Montreal sounds like a real progressive place!! Wow.

Ignorant frogs.

If race riots broke out up there due to the whiteys not liking Laraque so publicly, it'd be called "racial strife"

If it happened HERE, in the SOUTHEAST UNITED STATES, it'd be called "bigoted whites"

food for thought. It's bigoted whites no matter where it is. It's also racial strife no matter where it is, so both are technically correct, but there'd be a hidden agenda there were it actually to take place.

I should probably clarify: by "hidden agenda there" I meant the media's portrayal, not the actual effected people of said hypothetical race riots.

Might seeman an odd thing for a Southerner to say, but I really wish John Wilkes Booth hadn't gotten so lucky and that Lincoln hadn't been assassinated. Of course, the media based in the New England region might still be pretty biased against the South...

I should probably stop drinking tonight. I get the impression that I'm only making things worse haha
