So did you enjoy last weekend's sunshine and moderate, non-humid warmth, in the midst of which you only occasionally turned on the teevee to check news of the Egyptian uprising? Of course not; you stayed inside watching the All Star festivities (i.e. Jeremy Roenick asking Dustin Byfuglien to "rap"), and it's not like our hundreds of channels had any actual news anyway.
This year's hoopla (the Staal/Lidstrom draft, etc.) was a good narcotic and sort of fun, but your editor has to admit he couldn't find any enjoyment or excitement in the game itself. I've always had a feeling that Anze Kopitar and Loui Eriksson would play well together, though, and for the rest of my life I can sleep in sound confirmation, thanks to the 2011 NHL All Star Game.
ALSO: Vis-a-vis this year's ASG in Raleigh, our former boyfriend Craig Custance has written a nice article on the viability of Sun Belt franchises. Do read.
ALSO ALSO: As far as I could tell, the Hurricanes organization found no way to get Ric Flair involved in last weekend's festivities. This is regrettable.

The draft was a fairly entertaining little aside. I did laugh out loud watching Ovi whip out the cell phone to take a picture of Phil Kessel sitting alone on the floor as the last one picked.
As much as I enjoy James Duthie's writing and twitter updates, he was pretty awful as an MC. Likewise, the whole crew they had covering the Skills Competition were terrible. The SC is always my favorite part of the All Star weekend, but this year it was like watching paint dry, and I really don't know why.
The trick shot competition is a total flop. There's no drama to it and very few actual "wow" moments. The marathon shootout drill at the end was anti-climactic, and there was too much down time. The only part that was really enjoyable was the relay event and the hardest shot competition.
On the other hand, I really enjoyed the game. They averaged a goal every three minutes with lots of fancy scoring chances in between. I found I really had no reason to pull for one team over the other except for wanting to see Byfuglien and Timmy Thomas win.
This morning's coverage on Hockey This Morning included interviews with players that always included the question "how can we inject more intensity into the game - WITHOUT ADDING HITTING FOR BEAVER-GOD'S SAKE!?!?!
It made me want to shoot my radio.
It seems as though The Naitch was overseas wrestling for TNA this week when an unfortunate incident occured:

But remember, diamonds are forver, and so is the Nature Boy.
Sadly it appears the link didn't work. Short story: apparently he asked TNA for a cash advance because he paid for Europe's bar tab, they turned him down, so he refused to get on a bus to go to the aiport for the next show.
Two words describe this: Awesome.
